Wilbur's Wildlife is home to 2 Woma pythons. Olivia has lived with us since 2020 and is a regular star of our animal incursions. Ronald joined us in 2026 and is in training to join our presentations.
Woma pythons are native to the dry regions of central and Western Australia.
They are strictly terrestrial, meaning they only live on the ground.
Their habitat is sandy deserts, scrublands, woodlands, and sand-plain dune fields.

What does a Woma Python eat?
Woma pythons are carnivores, they eat small mammals, ground birds and reptiles.
The Woma python is a nocturnal snake that spends the daytime sheltering in hollow logs or burrow.
The Woma python uses it’s head as a shovel to dig and expand burrows.
As well as constricting their prey Woma pythons primarily utilize their burrows to hunt, in their burrows there isn’t enough room to maneuver coils so they lure prey in by wiggling their narrow tails then forcefully pin their prey against the walls. This technique is less effective than constriction so many adult Woma pythons usually present with scars from retaliating rodents.
Foxes and feral cats sometimes prey on young Woma pythons however; the biggest threat to Woma pythons is habitat destruction. This jeopardizes their breeding patterns, protection and amount of food available to them.
What are some fun facts about the Woma Python?
Despite Woma pythons being non-venomous, they are immune to the bites of highly venomous snakes and will even eat them.
